Fit or Healthy – What’s the Difference?

Date: Jul 1, 2020

Are you looking to be fit or healthy?

Did you know that being fit does not always mean being healthy and being healthy doesn’t always translate into being fit?

That’s right! There is such thing as over exercising just like there is such thing as over dieting. This is why I’m always talking about a balanced routine and moderation.

The notion that being incredibly fit translates into a person being healthy is not always true.

What does this mean?

OVER DIETING and/or POOR NUTRITION

A person may appear to be fit but may not be consuming a whole foods based diet and rather a diet full of processed supplements and restrictive eating(constant calorie deficit). Or maybe they are eating a pretty wholesome diet but as soon as they have a treat, they may experience guilt or shame.

This isn’t healthy for one’s mental nor physical health.

There is a lot more that goes into this subject which I intend to expound more on eventually but the main point I want to make in this post is in regards to exercise.

OVER EXERCISING:

This one is dependent on a person’s lifestyle, line of work, and abilities. Some are able to handle more than others and can therefore commit to more challenging routines.

It’s important to take into account that everyone enjoys different forms of movement. Some enjoy fast pasted dance cardio classes, others prefer yoga, and some love weight training, HIIT, or slow painful pilates 😉

So, why do you want to exercise? To be fit, healthy, or both?

When I ask someone these questions, I often get mixed answers and this is exactly the reason why I ask them. To help you seek within and understand your true intentions– your “why”. Again, most people don’t understand the difference between being fit and being healthy and how to properly achieve both.

This is also the reason I’ve made it a goal to educate others so they can make clear conscious choices rather than following popular trends.

I personally do not believe in being fit at all costs and while I love being fit, being healthy is my # 1 priority and my approach when it comes to fitness and wellness. There’s a way we can learn to be both, fit and heathy if given proper guidance and education.

You don’t need to struggle with “diets”, restriction mindset, or dread working out. Learning to love fitness and eating healthy for our health first, helps make this way of life sustainable.

This mindset can take some time but with small actions each day we can build healthy habits towards a lifestyle and workout routine that feels good, enjoyable, and moves us forward in our fitness journey.

After years of experimenting with different forms of movement, I’ve discovered that overdoing one type of workout method can lead to imbalance and leave us feeling drained while putting unnecessary stress on our bodies and our hormones. Progressing does not mean we need to kill ourselves in every workout in order to achieve and maintain results.

I believe the most wholesome workout program combines a variety of methodologies as we reap different benefits from each. But we also don’t want to run in place so we should include workouts in our routine that move us past our comfort zone.

I personally found combining pilates techniques with traditional strength movements and HIIT is a perfectly balanced fitness routine that I can sustain. This is why I created the VB METHOD – a methodology that provides results while maintaining healthy energy levels.

Some days I workout really hard and some days I take it a little easier and simply follow one of my gentle pilates flows. Even during my hard workouts I like to vary my routine with some gentle exercises in between to give my muscles some rest between movements.

This is what a balanced routine feels like for me. One that is challenging and keeps me pushing forward to get stronger but at the same time makes me feel good allowing me to preserve my energy levels. This is what sustainable means to me!

We should always enjoy the process. This includes the fun workouts and also the workouts that are challenging and push us outside our comfort zone.

Today after coaching for over 10 years and working with hundreds of women with varying stories, cultural standards, physical builds, and genetics; I believe all women and men have the capacity to use fitness and a balanced lifestyle to help them love and care for their whole being.

Self love starts with learning to accept where we are at any given moment. Once we learn to be kind with ourselves the habits we continue to build will have a truly healing and transformational impact.

If you’re looking for some guidance, inspiration, or simply a new way to reach your goals, check out the VB METHOD if you haven’t yet. I’m currently offering a 7 day FREE trial so you can try it out before having to financially commit. Link below!
